Windsurfers and kiters were out in force this weekend on Lake Winnebago. I was able to sail with at least a half dozen windsurfers and about a dozen kiters off Deadwood Point on Friday, April 2. Sunny skys, 80-deg temps, and 30+ mph winds made this one of the best opening sessions I have ever had. Even though ice was on the lake as recently as the weekend prior the shallow water near shore heated up quickly with the warm sun. It was a bit chilly in the deeper water away from shore so caution should still be used. I am sure people continued to sail throughout the weekend and into this week, and I hope MOWIND members throughout the region enjoyed similar starts to their season.
Remember, the 2010 MOWIND race season starts soon (link to calendar). The Walleye Wagatta will be held on Lake Winnebago off of Windpower Windsurfing and Kiting Center May 15-16. You can contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any questions, and can expect a notice of race soon. We’ll see you on the water!
