Lake Winnebago Opens with a Roar

Windsurfers and kiters were out in force this weekend on Lake Winnebago. I was able to sail with at least a half dozen windsurfers and about a dozen kiters off Deadwood Point on Friday, April 2. Sunny skys, 80-deg temps, and 30+ mph winds made this one of the best opening sessions I have ever had. Even though ice was on the lake as recently as the weekend prior the shallow water near shore heated up quickly with the warm sun. It was a bit chilly in the deeper water away from shore so caution should still be used. I am sure people continued to sail throughout the weekend and into this week, and I hope MOWIND members throughout the region enjoyed similar starts to their season.
