2019 Reservoir Rendezvous

It was a lovely dry weekend in the mid 80’s for the 2019 Reservoir Rendezvous in New London, Ohio. The location is ideal for camping near the water.  The first campers arrived Thursday and enjoyed a nice breeze with the lake virtually to themselves.  Several more arrived Friday and stayed cool surfing, foiling or honing their skills.

Saturday we woke to a 10mph wind building out of the West.  Committee Chair Mark held a Skipper’s Meeting at 10:00 and triangle course racing began at 10:45.  Four races were held before a delicious lunch was provided by organizer Carl Rappaport.  Peter from Minnesota had already established himself as the man to beat. The wind was up to 15mph when racing resumed.  Seven more races were held as the breeze continued to freshen to occasional white caps.  We happily shared the lake with short boards and even a lone kite.  The competitors called it a day by 4:15 but some hearty souls continued to enjoy playing in the ideal conditions until sunset.  Carl spoiled us with a burger and brat dinner on the beach and many folks enjoyed the camaraderie near a small fire until well after dark.

After a hearty breakfast a light NE wind provided just enough locomotion to conduct four Sunday morning races on a shortened course.  The squirrelly conditions proved challenging to competitors but extremely entertaining for onlookers.  Many thanks to all who attended and especially to Carl who makes it happen and the volunteers who ran the committee.
